Life doesn’t always make sense, especially as it’s unfolding. We might never know “why” things happen, but if we can find acceptance, we can make sense of life’s hard knocks. There are silver linings if we are willing to look up. Last fall kicked off a series of events that left my family reeling. Challenges occurred in such rapid succession that we couldn’t get up in between the punches, but we could always look up. In the time that has passed, we’ve gained perspective. Through that perspective, blessings have been revealed, making it possible for gratitude to take place over bitterness.
In hindsight, each difficult issue made the challenges that followed more bearable. The more we looked up, the more silver linings we saw. Even with the clouds looming overhead, we saw blessings and knew things could always be worse.
I didn’t then, nor do I now, need answers to why life kept crashing down on my family, but I feel better when I can make some sense of it. Maybe I’m telling myself stories to justify the storms, but I believe there is always a reason for everything that happens. I have learned that more of life’s reasons are revealed when the time is right. Life is more appealing when I am open to changing my perspective. The view gets better, and my outlook improves.
The point is there is always a reason for everything that happens. We don’t have to like what is happening, but we can make sense of it with acceptance and perspective. Look up and know that without clouds and sun, or bad times and good times, silver linings wouldn’t exist. We need both to experience certain beauties in life. Both can be beautiful independently, but together, they are better than what is imaginable.
