Not long ago, my friend gave me a greeting card. The card reads, “Your crazy is showing… you may want to tuck that sh*t back in. The inside inscription continues, “Or not…depends on what look you’re going for. Holidays have nothing to do with the card, but I can’t help thinking of them when I look at it. This time of year brings out the crazy in us all, of which ugly sweaters are not the least bit responsible. Songs on the radio will have us believe the holidays are “the most wonderful time of the year.” Many will wholeheartedly dispute the proclamation. Excitement is high, patience is low, and time is running out. The to-do list of shopping, wrapping, cooking, and cleaning is insane. The chaos of the season is undeniable. Crazy is part of what makes the holidays memorable.
There is a buzz of urgency in the air as we cram into our days as much as possible before the end of the year. Don’t tuck in your crazy; flaunt it! To many, the effort of a house decked out with thousands of lights and tremendous amounts of yard ornamentation is wild. This might be true, but it is also greatly appreciated. Passersby line up to view the displays and get into the spirit. To hell with the matching Laura Ashley dresses my mother and I used to wear. Now is the time of year to pull off those ostentatious outfits of flashing lights and sequins. Who cares if your crazy shows? Let go of perfection and discover how easy it is to delight in the season.
Whether “your crazy is showing” or you choose to “tuck that sh*it back in,” I hope you enjoy the holidays! Whatever you choose will look great on you. Happy Holidays!
