Tomorrow marks a day in American history that no American will ever forget. Most people cannot recall what they ate for breakfast, but on 9/11, no one can erase the details of that day. Where you were, what you were doing, even what you wore is probably on total recall. For some, there is no distant memory. Those days are tattooed on hearts as though it happened yesterday. Television and radio captivated millions around the world. As time stood still, lives near and far were shattered and altered, never to be the same. The devastation of September 11, 2001, reverberated from shore to shore, mountain top to mountain top, and sky to ocean floor. America was not, is not the same.
Immediately following the tragedy, we, as Americans, moved into action. We banded together in solidarity to ensure the safety and sanctity of our nation. What we didn’t see coming, we learned from. May we never lose sight of our unity from that darkest of times. May we hold onto our collective strength as citizens and always defend our democracy. “United we stand. Divided we fall.” These words will always ring true. We couldn’t be divided from the outside; let us not be divided from the inside. During this next election, remember the camaraderie we held for one another and our desire to protect the nation our forefathers designed for us. Party lines were of no consequence twenty-three years ago. We were a nation of Americans, not Republicans or Democrats. We were never to be the same after that day, but we never turned on each other like we are now.
When you remember 9/11, remember the solidarity of the United States of America. Tomorrow marks a day in American history that no American will ever forget. God Bless America!
