“The world is round” are the words my husband is most known for saying. More than just a phrase; it’s a way of life for him, one that he has instilled in our family. His statement has nothing to do with the shape of the Earth and everything to do with being generous. He’ll gladly lend a helping hand whenever he can, with no strings attached. Should the opportunity arise to return the favor, he will accept but not expect the kindness. With no expectation attached, his motives can’t be mistaken as self-serving. The basis of his generosity is a pay-it-forward mentality.
There are times in which we all could use some assistance. He is happy to lighten the load of others and hopes that his kindness will roll over to the next person. What comes around goes around because the world is round. Sometimes, his involvement is asked for; other times, he sees a need and fills a void. Trust that when you’re in a position to need something, someone will be there to scratch your back.
Sharing his time and talents isn’t easier for him than anyone else. He just doesn’t hesitate to do it. When you’re open to making life easier for others, not only yourself, there’s no risk of people taking advantage of you. People want to support one another, especially when they know they can count on you to do the same. Allowing neighbors to fill his trailer with fall leaves to be disposed of isn’t a big deal to him. It’s a simple way of helping others by doing what he has to do anyway. When the time comes that he needs help, friends and neighbors will line up to show their appreciation. Living like the world is round makes it a better place.
