Spring Break is over, so it’s back to reality. My reality is that it’s time for a spring cleaning checklist. My spring cleaning is sure to clear plenty of space in my life. I want my arms free of clutter and my mind clear of chaos, giving me more freedom to enjoy the here and now. This year, I’ve decided to take a new approach to the task. In addition to my typical practice of purging items, I am taking inventory of other aspects of my life that no longer benefit me. I’m questioning old behaviors and habits. Taking a conscientious look inward has revealed parts of myself that I’m willing to let go of. Perspective, age, and maturity continually reshape the way I think about or react to life. The more I assess situations, the more I find that simply letting go is the best solution.
Being more discerning about my decisions and reactions has lightened my load physically and mentally. Recognizing that everything in life is temporary has become a helpful reminder. Savoring the present is more important than worrying about the future. Before I know it, both will be in the past. All aspects of living have an impermanence about them. Closets and cupboards only have so much space to store contents. The same goes for my comfort zone. Old thinking or habitual patterns can only benefit me for so long. Just like clothing, what was once flattering and acceptable has changed. I’ve changed, and in doing so, I’m willing to let go.
Whatever your spring entails, I highly recommend making a comprehensive spring cleaning checklist. Unclutter as much of your life as you are willing to. Letting go of “old stuff” leaves so much free space to enjoy what you have and who you are now.
