I don’t pay much attention to “pop-up holidays” as I call them, but I think this Thursday is one worth noting. Thursday is National Chocolate Day! Milk, dark, white they are all delicious if you ask me. Pop a cholate in your mouth and savor the sweetness. Forest Gump coined the sentiment, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” True, but does it really matter? Sometimes surprises are great, like discovering caramel on the inside. If you don’t like the filling just pick off the outer shell.
Chocolate is one thing that’s interior content can be overlooked. Take what you want and leave the rest, isn’t a bad way to approach life either. Most of the time what we want and what we get don’t match up. That doesn’t mean you discard the day, the person, or the adventure. Find and relish the good parts. When you wake up each day reach for what you think will make you happy. When a situation falls short set it aside and reach for another aspect. Every day has at least one morsel of sweetness to be had. The best is when the whole piece is good! If chocolate isn’t your thing you can probably at least see the beauty in a box of chocolates, or have an appreciation for the effort put forth.
A box of chocolates can be full of your favorites, and at the same time be too much of a good thing. Moderation ensures the continuous enjoyment of your pleasure. Too much sweet and you lose your appreciation for it. Part of the fun is not knowing what you’re going to get. Sometimes the unexpected hits the spot and turns out better than you could’ve imagined, so enjoy whatever you get.
