Sunday is Father’s Day, making it a good day to say thank you. Thank you to all the dads who have done their best without having to be the best. You’re good men who never forget that “Dad” is a title earned, not received. From the start, many of us wanted to be just like you. We learned to recognize characteristics and qualities you’ve displayed that are worth duplicating. We appreciate the footprints you’ve left for us to follow and the encouragement to make our own. Our lists of gratitude for all you’ve done and continue to do for us are never-ending.
Thank you for remembering what it’s like to be a kid. Whether you played, watched, or coached our activities, we cherished the time. Your efforts in helping with homework, braiding our hair, or telling bedtime stories are more valuable than you know. Thank you for allowing us to make mistakes and learn from them. We are grateful for your understanding that your time and attention with us are more valuable than money. Thank you for your emotional support, drying our tears, and cheering us on. When you didn’t hide behind a façade of bravado but instead felt and dealt with emotions, we took note.
Here’s to returning the high fives, pats on the back, and I love yous. We hope we make you proud as your children and as people. Who knows who we’d be without you? Thank you for teaching us to love by loving us. Even though Sunday is officially Father’s Day, today seems like a good day to say thank you and Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads!
