Spring has announced its arrival. If you don’t stop and admire, you’ll miss the awesomeness of the season. In addition to the lawns turning green, flowers bursting, and trees budding, animal babies are starting to appear. These fluffy bundles are a marvel to watch as they rapidly learn their way of life. Before their fluff turns to feathers goslings, and ducklings are whisked to the water to learn to swim. Baby calves and horses stand on wobbly legs within minutes. Fox cubs wrestle their den mates in preparation for hunting. The amount of change that takes place in a short time is astounding.
People are in such a hurry to get to whatever is next in life that they often miss the here and now. Tomorrow may be too late to enjoy what is offered today. “Stop and smell the roses” isn’t a cliche; it’s reality. Slowing down to admire what is going on around you is an expression of gratitude. Every day brings forth its own kind of beauty.
Looking forward to what happens tomorrow doesn’t mean we have to speed through today to get there. Each day is the same twenty-four hours. Animal babies aren’t the only gifts we miss if we don’t pay attention. Indulge your senses in the fragrance of a crab apple tree. Open your eyes to the flowers poking through the ground today and revealing their full splendor later this week. Enjoy the waves of blossoms as one type fades and another appears almost out of nowhere. The beauty of this life is in the little things we can’t make for ourselves but can appreciate for enriching our days.
May your spring be filled with animal babies and blossoms. May your life be filled with reasons to slow down and enjoy what surrounds you.
